It is not only our responsibility as bird owners to provide food, water and spacious cage for our pet birds. It is insufficient to spend more time with our birds and bond with them.  The first thing that we should do make sure our pet birds would live a long and healthy life is choose a good avian veterinarian.

If you have a dog or a cat and already have a veterinarian for them, that may not be necessarily be the vet that you need for your bird.  Birds have different anatomy and different needs compared to your feline and canine companions.  I found a great solution for housebreaking a puppy.  The best solution yet.

Where can you find an avian vet?

There is the Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV) which maintains a directory of  qualified veterinarians.  You can even get assistance from the Veterinary Medical Association located in your state. Yellow Pages are also a great source of information.   If unable to get hold of anybody from these groups, you can check out their websites in the internet or even ask the local Bird Club if they could recommend anybody.  Pet bird owners like you are can give you the best advice based on their experiences. Also check with local pet breeders.  Most of the times, the most sensible advice comes from them.

Aside from this, it is always a great point that whenever you visit the vet the doctor and the staff receive you and your pet warmly.  It will be great to walk into a pet clinic that provides you an air of assurance and importance.

Keeping tabs on the health of your beloved bird does not only fall in the hands of the avian vet.  How would they know that your bird is suffering sickness if you are not paying attention?  It is also important to maintain a healthy working relationship with your vet since you would not know when emergencies can happen.

The vet can even help you draw up a diet plan for your bird which would surely improve the disposition and health of your pet. Also ask your veterinarians about any emergency first aid methods that you can do when something bad happens to your pet bird.  An avian vet is your ally in making sure that your bird would live a long and joyful life.

Clicking on the link for the prediction page for any of the signs brings you to a page that describes the personality of that sign (a very fun read, to compare it to your pet’s personality), as well as the effects of astrological events on the life of your pet during each season of the year. The website is laid out very well, organized cleanly and with very fun graphics.

 

Cat’s Central

 

Cat’s & Kittens Central provides a fun web page called Winky’s Pet Horoscopes, which is focused primarily on cats. The page touts Winky’s Pet Horoscopes as “The Internet’s #1 Feline Astrologer!” This web page allows you to view your cat’s monthly horoscope. If you don’t know your cat’s exact birthday, Winy says you can simply use the day your pet came into your life.

 

Each page for the monthly horoscope of each sign features an adorable photo of a cat given the title the zodiac sign “of the Month.” The horoscopes themselves are tailored specifically for cats and very fun to read. For example, Aries for this month reads:

 

“The moon is set to eclipse Pluto this month, but you needn’t worry yourself about that – after all, Pluto was a badly drawn cartoon dog and you, being of the feline persuasion, are far removed from such things.”

 

The humor and wit is great. The website, overall, is somewhat amateurish in design, but it isn’t overrun by ads and it’s very easy to navigate. The well-written horoscopes are definitely the star of the show at this site.

Though it is rarely referred to as a pet, a Rubber Boa is most definitely an interesting creature, and in my own opinion, it is the best snake that a person can have, especially for a first pet snake.  Everything about a Rubber Boa Snake is easy from their temperament, care, feeding, and hygiene.  Most snakes are a pet to be observed but not to be played with.  Rubber Boas are the type of pet that a person can interact with, as they enjoy the warmth from a hand and will curl up on one for hours.  The feeling is mutual, as a humans hand enjoys the soft feel of these docile serpents.

What Makes a Rubber Boa So Great?

1.    Interactive: Rubber Boas will be a pet that you can hold, touch, be held by, and not be afraid that it is going to get away while playing with it.  They are rather slow and will prefer to hang out on a warm hand any day and stay there for a long time.  The feel of their skin is much like their name, Rubber, but even softer than that.

2.    Appealing: Rubber Boas have been used as a form of treatment for snake phobias in several cases.  While most snakes are fast and quick to bite, these Boas are slow, docile, and almost never bite (I have never seen nor heard of one biting, but it could happen).  If they are to bite a person, it will be harmless and most likely painless.  The one thing that impresses me most of these snakes is their soft texture, which is why they are called a Rubber Boa.

3.    Easy to Care For: Rubber Boas are very easy to take care of.  They do best in an area that has similarities to their native range which is mostly limited to the Northwestern U.S. and Southwestern Canada.  They can be found in both arid forests to the rainforests of the coast.  Their temperature preference is between 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, such as room temperature in a home, and need a decent size dish of water for them to soak in.  The only cleaning necessary is switching out the water once it had been defecated in.

4.    Easy to Feed: Rubber Boas eat primarily on young rodents in the wild while fending off the parents with their blunt tail.  Therefore it is best to feed them pink mice, and several at a time.  They are known to binge feed and then not eat for a month or two.  That is why they will eat several in one setting.
A Rubber Boa has many benefits over other snakes.  Here is a list of just a few as well as the one negative.

While there are not too many bad things about this species of snake, the biggest downside is the lack of places to buy a Rubber Boa.  I will keep an eye out and list any links I can find that sale them.  The ones that I have had, I have caught on the road at dusk as I live in the Northern Idaho where they are common to find.  They are incredible hiders and I have never seen one anywhere except for on the road.  I would not attempt to go looking for them though as many times where they live is also areas that you may find rattlesnakes, unless of course you are in to that type of thing.

Every conscientious bird owner should know there are certain foods and certain ingredients that must never be fed to a pet bird.  Here’s a list of six (6) food items that should not be fed to a bird or caution must be taken in the preparation of the food.

 

1.  Chocolate, unfortunately, is absolutely not for the birds.  That wonderful candy bar can have disastrous consequences for your bird.  Chocolate is incredibly damaging to a bird’s digestive system.  Initially, chocolate will cause vomiting and diarrhea.  It can then affect the central nervous system resulting in  seizures and eventual death.  Chocolate and food containing chocolate ought to remain well out of reach of your feathered friend.

 

2.  Though fruits are without a doubt good for birds, there are actually types that should by no means be given to birds. These include apples, apricots, cherries, peaches and pears.  The reason is quite surprising.  These fruits have minute amounts of cyanide within their seeds which is an incredibly harmful and a likely lethal substance even in trace quantities.  Birds can eat portions of these types of fruit so long as it is cut away from the seeds or core.  Also, always clean fruit before giving to your pets, your children or yourself.  Damaging chemicals present in pesticides are often detrimental to small animals such as birds.

 

Avocado is one fruit that should not be given to your pet bird.  Skin of the avocado may cause cardiac distress and heart failure in particular bird species. 4.  Although you may like to have a few, never ask your pet bird if he or she wish to join you for a drink.  Alcohol depresses a birds organs which, in some cases, can be lethal.  Caffeine is incredibly harmful to birds also.  It causes cardiac malfunction in birds and, in some cases, could lead to arrhythmia, cardiac arrest, hyperactivity, and increased heartbeat.  Keep alcoholic and caffeinated drinks well from reach and from areas where your bird can access them.  Other than water, pure fruit or vegetable juice is good.  It can provide additional nutrition your bird needs.

 

5.  Salt or products containing salt should not be given to birds.  Like in humans, excess salt often results in dehydration, kidney dysfunction, thirst and death.  Due to their small size, it does not require a large amount of salt to have negative affects.

 

6.  Lastly, never give your pet bird dry or uncooked beans.  Dry or uncooked beans contain a poison called hemaglutin.  Hemaglutin is no longer a concern once the beans are cooked so if you wish to offer beans to your bird, cook them first.

I just got some pet birds! Two actually. They are cockatoos. On is a girl and the other is a boy. They are about 5 years old. They have been living with 2 other families so far. The one family didn’t really care for the birds that much. They had them for two years and then passed them on to my great aunt. They had them for three years and the never really wanted them, but the didn’t want to see innocent birds thrown away. Then they gave it to us. My dad still needs to clip the wings and all. Average Adult Size — For health reasons, a snake should be able to stretch out two-thirds of its body length inside its own cage. So if your pet snake reaches an adult length of six feet, the snake should ideally have a cage that’s around four feet in length. Adult snake size is important when you’re talking about types of pet snakes, because most people have limited space in their home that they can dedicate to snake keeping. The longest snake on my list usually will not exceed six and a half feet in length. A lot of Aussie Pythons are longer than this, but usually docile and can be handled fairly easily.
Temperament / Behavior — Experienced snake keepers and breeders will sometimes work with “unruly” snakes. But such snakes don’t make for good pets. So I’ve listed four types of snakes that generally have good temperaments (meaning they are reluctant bite and easy to tame).
Feeding Habits — If you’re going to keep snakes as pets (regardless of the species), you are going to be handling rodents. There’s no way around it. But it sure makes life easier when your pet snake readily eats frozen / thawed rodents, because you can buy them in bulk that way. Three out of the four snakes on my list will readily accept frozen / thawed rodents on a consistent basis. The fourth snake on my list (the ball python) can be a bit more “hit or miss” with regard to the foods they accept — at least in my experience. But they are still an excellent type of pet snake so I’ve included them on my list.
Health in Captivity / Hardiness — Some snakes are difficult to keep in captivity, and are best left to the professionals. So when considering a type of snake to keep as a pet, you’ll want to choose a snake species that does well in captivity from a health and wellness standpoint. Aussie Pythons are some of the hardiest snakes around and are very good for beginners. The four pet snakes no my list will all thrive in captivity if their basics needs are met (proper temperature, clean cage, fresh water and regular feeding).

Business Insurers of the Carolinas, a Chapel Hill, NC, based insurance company that services the pet-care industry, has released its top three categories of insurance claims received from professional pet sitters during 2008.

David Pearsall, director of sales and marketing for Business Insurers of the Carolinas, said that his company, who underwrites the bonding and insurance policies for a majority of pet-sitter businesses in the United States, has received a wide variety of claims over the last year, but most are the result of pets behaving like pets.

The top claims from professional pet sitters fall into these three categories:

1. Walking/Playing/Running – This broad category includes injuries such as pets being bitten by snakes while on hikes, torn anterior cruciate ligaments while playing Frisbee® and slipping on ice while walking. Most payouts for these incidents ranged from $ 1,000 to $ 5,000.

2. Swallowing or ingesting objects – These claims cover dogs swallowing toys, eating rocks, inhaling fox tails and everything in between. The average payout was $ 1,865.

3. Getting in and out of a vehicle – These claims include torn ligaments, broken paws and other injuries of pets who landed awkwardly while getting in and out of vehicles. The pet sitter’s insurance covered medical expenses that ranged from $ 4,921 to more than $ 14,000.

Dr. Louise Murray, DVM and director of medicine at Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital in New York City, has seen many instances of two of Pearsall’s findings: pets swallowing objects and injuries resulting from walking/playing/running.

“Many pet owners just don’t realize that pets will eat and swallow just about anything,” Murray said. “I’ve removed everything from coins and knives to eye glasses and baby bottle nipples.”

Murray warns that if an animal can pick up an object, it can and will swallow it.

“This really should inspire every pet owner to be a good housekeeper and keep objects picked up and out of a pet’s reach,” she said.

Murray has also seen many cases of ruptured anterior cruciate ligaments in pets that resulted from walking, playing and running.

“While some animals have a predisposition for weak anterior cruciate ligaments, the best way to avoid this type of injury is to keep your pet at the proper weight,” she said.

Murray also advises to condition pets slowly and avoid the weekend warrior syndrome.

“Make sure pets engage in moderate daily exercise instead of taking it easy all week and then accompanying their owner on a 10-mile hike during the weekend,” she said. “Also, be sure to help your pets avoid high twisting and jumping motions, especially in muddy, slippery and wet conditions.”

Pearsall offers insurance policies to professional pet sitters to help them uphold the level of service and professionalism that they bring to the pet-care industry and to protect pet owners and pets if injuries do occur while pets are in the care of an insured pet sitter.

“Associations like Pet Sitters International attract more professional pet sitters as opposed to fly-by-night pet sitters or inexperienced pet sitters,” Pearsall said. “Our numbers indicate that these business owners take extra steps to grow and protect their businesses.”

Turtles are wonderful pets that can live 25 years or more when they get the proper care. Pet turtles need special care that enables them to be healthy and live longer. Fortunately, once you know how to care for your tortoise, it really doesn’t take very long. Expect to take about 30 minutes a day.

Before adopting a pet turtle, researching the many pet species to choose from is recommended. Know that different turtles species can require more personal care; requiring more detailed housing needs, special diets and environments. For example, snapping turtles are more aggressive and soft shell turtles are more vulnerable to impure water and damage from rocks. For those with no experience taking care of turtles, red eared sliders and Russian tortoises make a good hardy turtle to start with. Make sure to check the laws in your states before buying a turtle, because of the risk of salmonella, turtles less than 4 inches are illegal to sell. Keeping red eared sliders as pets are also regulated in some areas.

The first step to proper turtle care is creating an environment for your pet. Turtles placed indoors will need at least a 40 gallon tank. This allows enough room for creating a wet and dry area for your pet with enough space to move around and exercise. Know that as your pet increases in size you may need to purchase a larger aquarium. Besides glass aquariums, large rubber tubs work well for housing turtles. The water in your tank should be six inches or more, making it deep enough for your pet to swim in. Because chlorine and fluoride are present in tap water, it is not suitable for your turtle’s drinking water. Instead, use natural spring water.

The usual way to create a proper environment is to have your tank have 75% water and 25% dry land. Using large flat stones in your dry area will enable your turtle to have a basking area that allows your turtle to fully dry off. A curved log is one way to help your turtle easily climb out of the water and make it to the dry area of the tank. Though tank decorations are not required, you may want to add some to add aesthetic value. If you decide to do this, make certain that any live plants added are not harmful to your turtle as well as skip using any item that has pointed or sharp edges.

Store the tank in a low traffic, quiet area of your house. A new turtle might be stressed out by being in a new environment and may be shy and retreat when people enter the room. Heating your aquarium will help keep your turtles active as they are cold blooded. Usually a constant temperature of approximately 80 degrees Fahrenheit will enable them from getting slower, though some species need a warmer climate. An ultraviolet light can be used during the day, to help your turtle absorb essential Vitamin D3 needed to utilize calcium. The ultraviolet light should be turned off at night to indicate the end of the day, and help your pet keep a consistent schedule. Even with ultraviolet light, your pet turtle will still require regular exposure to direct sunlight.

A heavy duty filtration unit will be needed to keep the tank clean and fecal matter should be removed from the tank as soon as it appears for the same reason. For prevention of fungus, you can add ¼ cup of table salt for each five gallons of water. Simply changing ten percent of the water each week helps maintain a much cleaner environment. Even with regular maintenance, periodically you should remove your turtle and all items in the tank for a thorough cleaning. White vinegar can be used to clean the inside of the tank and the filter can be cleaned with water, no chemicals should be used when cleaning your pet’s aquarium.

Though small turtles need to feed every day adult turtles should only be feed several times a week. The diet for turtles varies depending on species but most turtles are omnivores and a variety should be given to help your pet get the proper nutrition to stay in good health. Turtles can consume cooked chicken, low fat dog food, earthworms, fish, leafy green vegetables and fruits. Because turtles are messy eaters feeding in a separate container, will help keep the tank clean.

Turtles have sharp teeth and can bite, so be careful when sticking your hand into your turtle’s aquarium or handling them by hand. Being careful to wash your hands after taking care of your pet turtle is highly recommended due to the bacterial risk.

Young children should not be allowed to handle pet turtles without adult supervision. Though turtles make great pets, it is advisable not not have them if you have children less than 5 years old.

Pet turtles may react to the owner’s presence, especially if they are fed often by the same person. You cant own any sea turtles. They are all protected by the goverment. You could get arrested for having one of those. There is a list of turtles at http://www.austinsturtlepage.com . Aquatic turtles all get big. You could get a musk turtle.

My dog is a miniature Schnauzer, but he’s really big for a miniature. Well my dogs problem is that he always barks and growls at other dogs, even ones that are twice his size. He can’t confront other dogs because there either scared of him, or they get pissed off at my dog. There are only a few dogs my dog confront calmly. I think my dog only growls because he’s excited, because once he meets the dog he’s very gentle and just sniffs around. How do I fix my dogs problem, I know one way to fix it is to get another dog for him to play with. But my family does not want another dog. I also was able to get life insurance with HIV with no problem today…just thought I would share that.
It’s hard to introduce him to dogs because people just walk away at my barking dog lol.

i have a m. schnauzer myself, and he is like that too. its a natural thing in their breed. especially if your dog is not used to being around other dogs, like mine. i dont think you CAN actually fix it, maybe just train him. schnauzers really are aggressive towards other dogs anyway, so its up to you whether you want your dog to change or just be ”natural”. i’m fine with my dog just like that. i pretend he’s protecting me . I also saw a great website where this guy helps people with auto repair problems.

Fleas

Flea Basics
Fleas thrive when the weather is warm and humid. Depending on your climate, fleas may be a seasonal or year-round problem. Your pet can pick up fleas wherever an infestation exists, often in areas frequented by other cats and dogs. Adult fleas are dark brown, no bigger than a sesame seed, and able to move rapidly over your pet’s skin.

Adult fleas live their entire lives on your pet. Female fleas begin laying eggs within 24 hours of selecting your pet as a host, producing up to 50 eggs each day. These eggs fall from your pet onto the floor or furniture, including your pet’s bed, or onto any other indoor or outdoor area where your pet happens to go. Tiny, worm-like larvae hatch from the eggs and burrow into carpets, under furniture, or into soil before spinning a cocoon. The cocooned flea pupae can lie dormant (inactive) for weeks before emerging as adults that are ready to infest (or reinfest) your pet. The result is a flea life cycle of anywhere from 12 days to 6 months.

Risks and Consequences
You may not know that your pet has fleas until their number increases to the point that your pet is obviously uncomfortable. Signs of flea problems range from mild redness to severe scratching that can lead to open sores and skin infections. One of the first things you may notice on a pet with fleas is “flea dirt” — the black flea droppings left on your pet’s coat.

Fleas bite animals and suck their blood; young or small pets with heavy flea infestations may become anemic. Some pets can develop an allergy to flea saliva that may result in more severe irritation and scratching. Also, pets can become infected with certain types of tapeworms if they ingest fleas carrying tapeworm eggs. In areas with moderate to severe flea infestations, people may also be bitten by fleas. While fleas are capable of transmitting several other infectious diseases to pets and people, this is rare.

Treatment and Control
Your veterinarian will recommend an appropriate flea control plan for your pet based upon your needs and the severity of the flea infestation.

Fleas spend a lot of their time off of your pet and in the environment. In addition to treating your pet, reduce the flea population in your house by thoroughly cleaning your pet’s sleeping quarters and vacuuming floors and furniture that your pet comes in contact with frequently. Careful and regular vacuuming/cleaning of the pet’s living area helps to remove and kill flea eggs, larvae, and pupae. You may also have to treat your house with insecticides to kill the fleas; consult with your veterinarian about products safe for use around pets and children.

With moderate and severe flea infestations, you may be advised to treat your yard in addition to treating the inside of your home. Your veterinarian can recommend an appropriate course of action and suggest ways to prevent future flea infestations.

Ticks

Tick Basics
Hosting a tick is the price dogs or, less commonly, cats may pay for investigating shrubbery, brush, or wild undergrowth. Ticks have a four-stage life cycle, and immature ticks often feed on small, wild animals found in forests, prairies, and brush. Adult ticks seek larger hosts like dogs and cats who venture into these habitats. Tick exposure may be seasonal, depending on geographic location.

Risks and Consequences
Ticks are most often found around your dog’s neck, in the ears, in the folds between the legs and the body, and between the toes. Cats may have ticks on their neck or face. Tick bites can cause skin irritation and heavy infestations can cause anemia in pets. Ticks are also capable of spreading serious infectious diseases (such as Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and others) to the pets and the people on which they feed. Disease risk varies by geographic area and tick species.

Treatment and Control
Prompt removal of ticks is very important because it lessens the chance of disease transmission from the tick to your pet. Remove ticks by carefully using tweezers to firmly grip the tick as close to the pet’s skin as possible and gently pulling the tick free without twisting it. After removing the tick, crush it while avoiding contact with tick fluids that can carry disease. Do not attempt to smother the tick with alcohol or petroleum jelly, or apply a hot match to it, as this may cause the tick to regurgitate saliva into the wound, increasing the risk of disease.

Pets at risk for ticks should be treated during the tick season with an appropriate tick preventative. Your veterinarian can recommend a product best suited to your pet’s needs. Owners who take their pets to tick-prone areas during camping, sporting, or hiking trips should examine their pets for ticks immediately upon returning home and remove them from their pets. If your pet picks up ticks in your backyard, trimming bushes and removing brush may reduce your pet’s exposure to tick habitats.

Ear Mites

Mite Basics
Ear mites are common in young cats and dogs, and generally confine themselves to the ears and surrounding area. Mites are tiny and individual mites may be seen only with the aid of a microscope. Your pet can pick up ear mites by close contact with an infested pet or its bedding.

Risks and Consequences
Ear mites can cause intense irritation of the ear canal. Signs of ear mite infestation include excessive head shaking and scratching of the ears. Your pet may scratch to the point that it creates bleeding sores around its ears. A brown or black ear discharge is common with ear mite infections.

Treatment and Control
Treatment of ear mites involves thorough ear cleaning and medication. Your veterinarian can recommend an effective treatment plan.

Sarcoptic Mange Mites

Mite Basics
Microscopic sarcoptic mange mites cause sarcoptic mange, also known as scabies. Sarcoptic mange mites affect dogs of all ages, during any time of the year. Sarcoptic mange mites are highly contagious to other dogs and may be passed by close contact with infested animals, bedding, or grooming tools.

Risks and Consequences
Sarcoptic mange mites burrow through the top layer of the dog’s skin and cause intense itching. Clinical signs include generalized hair loss, a skin rash, and crusting. Skin infections may develop secondary to the intense irritation. People who come in close contact with an affected dog may develop a skin rash and should see their physician.

Treatment and Control
Dogs with sarcoptic mange require medication to kill the mites and additional treatment to soothe the skin and resolve related infections. Cleaning and treatment of the dog’s environment is also necessary.

Demodectic Mange Mites

Mite Basics
Demodectic mange caused by demodectic mange mites is mainly a problem in dogs. Demodectic mange mites are microscopic, cigar-shaped, and not highly contagious. A mother dog, however, may pass the mites to her puppies.

Risks and Consequences
Localized demodectic mange tends to appear in young dogs as patches of scaly skin and redness around the eyes and mouth and, perhaps, the legs and trunk. Unlike other types of mange, demodectic mange may signal an underlying medical condition, and your pet’s overall health should be carefully evaluated. Less commonly, young and old dogs experience a generalized form of demodectic mange and can exhibit widespread patches of redness, hair loss, and scaly, thickened skin.

Treatment and Control
Your veterinarian will discuss treatment options with you. Treatment of dogs with localized demodectic mange generally results in favorable outcomes. Generalized demodectic mange (demodecosis), however, may be difficult to treat, and treatment may only control the condition, rather than cure it.

Important Points

Look for fleas, ticks, and coat abnormalities any time you groom your dog or cat or when you return home from areas that are likely to have higher numbers of these parasites.

See your veterinarian if your pet excessively scratches, chews, or licks its haircoat, or persistently shakes its head. These clinical signs may indicate the presence of external parasites or other conditions requiring medical care.

Prompt treatment of parasites lessens your pet’s discomfort, decreases the chances of disease transmission from parasite to pet, and may reduce the degree of home infestation.

Discuss the health of all family pets with your veterinarian when one pet becomes infested. Some parasites cycle among pets, making control of infestations difficult unless other pets are considered. Consult your veterinarian before beginning treatment.

Many people think that hamsters are one of the best household pets that you can get.  They are fun, cute and relatively easy to look after.  Because of this, they make a great pet for families because children can feel a sense of responsibility from looking after them, although do ensure that you check on them too in case your child has forgotten anything or hasn’t noticed something wrong.

 

You will need to make sure that your hamster always has access to fresh food and water.  You can buy specialist hamster foods in most pet shops, and they often like a lot of fruit and vegetables, also.  You can put water in a bowl for your hamster, but you may find that they will get sawdust, bedding or food in it.  To stop this happening, you can find lots of special water bottles which allow for your hamster to drink water whenever it feels like it.

 

When you’re looking for a cage for your hamster, it is best to buy the biggest that you can afford because hamsters love being able to run around and stay active.  Glass or plastic tank-style cages are ideal for hamsters, but a lot of people prefer buying wire cages because these allow for your hamster to climb which provides them with fun, exercise and it can be quite amusing to watch!  Keep the cage somewhere away from direct sunlight and out of reach of cats or dogs.

Making sure that your pet hamster is fit and healthy is very important and, because of this, getting an exercise wheel is essential.  This means that your hamster can exercise whenever it feels like it.  Because hamsters are generally nocturnal, you may not want to keep their cage in your room since it means that they may keep you awake by running on their wheel all night. 

 

Another great way to keep your hamster fit is to get them an exercise ball.  These allow you to put your pet hamster inside so that it can run around and explore your house.  When using these, ensure that the opening is secured tightly, that dogs or cats aren’t nearby in case your hamster manages to escape and so that they don’t stress your hamster out by following or nudging the ball, and that the ball is not left unattended.  You must definitely be careful to ensure that the exercise ball is not somewhere that may be unsafe, like at the top of stairs for example.

 

While not many people would consider insurance for a pet hamster, you may want to look into it anyway, particularly if you already have pet insurance for your dog or cat. There are many websites where you can compare pet insurance and this will allow you to get the best deal for your family pets.

 

Hamsters make absolutely wonderful pets that many people love to keep, and should you choose to buy one you should do everything in your power to ensure that it is kept well.  Having said that, hamsters are pretty easy to look after and you will find all that you need to know on the internet or in books in your local library.  With the right treatment, you can share many happy times with your hamster.

If you’d like you can Pets’ Shelter and ask them where’s the best place. Or, you can go to the zoo and give the adorable creatures to them… They always need new wild-life creatures there
