Those are pretty easy pets to take care of, and unless you get the kinds that are high maintenance that have been imported from Argentina or whatever, they come pretty inexpensively. If you don't want a reptile, then consider a rat or a gerbil. Those are a lot like hamsters, but they're pretty cool, too. and don't get a firebelly toad while your dog is around. If your dog eats it(which is actually pretty likely), then it will die :(. And you have a good chance of getting some kind of an illness if you forget to wash your hands after you've been picking it up and holding it. Hope that helps! Male rats are easy to keep (an aquarium works best..they get to big for habittrails)...The females are more restless and bitey! Male rats are personable and learn their names. They love to be messed with..unlike your hamster. Get one that is young though. Once you've had a rat...you will want one again and again. Have you thought about a rat?
